Pedal For Scotland: Road closures in Edinburgh and West Lothian as thousands of cyclists saddle-up

Thousands of people will saddle up and take part in the last ever Pedal For Scotland event on Sunday, 8 September.

The 45-mile closed road cycle run will see participants set off from Glasgow Green between 7.30am and 9am before finishing up at Ingliston in Edinburgh at around 4pm.

This year's event marks their 20th anniversary – and their last ever ride.

The route will pass through Linlithgow, Winchburgh and Kirkliston on its way to the Scottish capital, and a number of road closures will be in place.

In Linlithgow the B825, Main Street, Falkirk Road, High Street and the A803 are set to be off limits from 5.30am to 5pm on the day, as riders pass through.

Riders will head down the B9080 through Kingscavil, Bridgend, Threemiletown and Winchburgh with the route off limits from 6am to 5pm.

They'll then go along towards Kirkliston, with Stirling Road and Main Street to be shut from 6am and 4.30pm. High Street, Path Brae and the B800 will then be used, before cyclists turn on to Lochend Road and finish up at Ingliston. These routes are set to be off limits from 6am to 4.30pm

Organisers Cycling Scotland say the Pedal For Scotland event is for people of all ages and abilities – from experienced bikers to those who only saddle up every so often.

Three rides will be taking place in total, the classic 45-mile challenge, the 100-mile Big Belter which takes the long way, and the 10-mile Wee Jaunt.

The event partners with four charities and encourages everyone taking part to help support them. They are the British Heart Foundation Scotland, STV Children's Appeal, Glasgow Children's Hospital Charity and the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
