Sept. 23--Smartwatch critics who slammed the devices for being too clunky or geeky might have to do a double take. Smartwatch maker Pebble announced the Pebble Time Round on Wednesday, its lightest and thinnest watch.
The watch's operating system is the same as the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steele, and it has the same "timeline" feature that lets users scroll through calendar events, weather information and game scores without having to open and close a bunch of apps.
Like earlier Pebble watches, the Time Round also relies on buttons instead of a touch screen to navigate the software.
Its design is noticeably different, though, featuring a round face and a body that is 7.5 millimeters thin, weighing less than competitors such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear.
"Our team has created the first smartwatch that looks like a beautiful, classic wristwatch," Pebble Chief Executive Eric Migicovsky said in a video announcing the watch. "It's focused; it's not a miniature smartphone on your wrist. It's designed from the ground up to be a truly smartwatch."

The watch will be available in a variety of finishes and band options and is expected to ship in November.
Pebble.com, Best Buy, Target and Amazon are accepting pre-orders.
