Pearl Harbor shooting: 3 dead and 1 hurt after US sailor in uniform opens fire

Two men have been killed after a US submarine sailor in uniform opened fire at Pearl Harbour naval base before shooting himself.

The incident saw the prominent military site put on lockdown as police hunted the shooter.

The Department of Defense civilian workers were reportedly killed in the shocking attack near the shipyard’s Dry Dock 2 -  while a third man is stable.

The sailor was assigned to the USS Columbia which was having maintenance work done on the drydock.

The shooting took place just two days before the 78th anniversary of the infamous surprise Japanese bombing of the site in Hawaii in 1941.

Rear Admiral Robert Chadwick, of the navy, said: "I can confirm there are three shooting victims. Two are deceased and one is in a stable condition in the local hospital."

"I cannot share the name of the shooter at this time, until we can confirm that next of kin notification has been made."

On Twitter the base wrote: "Officials at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam report the shooting incident at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard has been secured. One person is confirmed dead. The shooter has been identified as a U.S. Sailor.
