Pearce Hanley announces his retirement from AFL

Pearce Hanley has announced his retirement from AFL.

Regarded as one of Ireland's most successful exports to the AFL, the Mayo native has called time on his career at the age of 31.

Hanley moved Down Under in 2007, joining the Brisbane Lions before moving on to the Gold Coast's Suns ahead of the 2017 season.

He said on his retirement: "It's obviously been on my mind for a while and I made the decision a few days ago and haven't had any regrets since.

"I think great clubs are built off great people and the Suns have that.

"I'll continue to be on this journey with them, but I’ll be watching on from the stands."
