Dog ownership is on the rise in the UK but it's growing harder for some to pick a unique name that stands out from the crowd.
A survey found that the most popular female dog's name in the UK was Bella, followed by Luna and Daisy, while Alfie, Charlie and Milo were top ranked for the males.
However, if you're looking for an unusual name to shout in the dog park, there are plenty of rescue pups with unusual monikers in Manchester who are looking for their new home, and the team at Team Dogs have put together the latest to recognise some of these unusually named cuties.
Name: Peanut
Age: Three years old
Sex: Female
Breed: Crossbreed
Likes: Long adventures, and getting lots of fuss and attention
Dislikes: Too much overstimulation, and strange new dogs
Additional Info: Peanut is described as ‘ a super lively girl who loves getting loads of fuss and attention from the people she knows’ who needs a very active home to keep up with her energy levels.
She is unfortunately under socialised around dogs and can get frustrated easily when she sees them, so for this reason she will need walks to be in low dog populated areas, and needs to be the only pet in the home.
She has managed to walk nicely alongside some dogs but will need adopters to be comfortable continuing her dog socialising.
She loves long adventures and is happy on car journeys, so she would be perfect for an active adult-only home where she can enjoy her life to the fullest.

Name: Diesel
Age: Two years old
Sex: Male
Breed: Husky Cross
Likes: Patient and loving handlers
Dislikes: New experiences that can at first seem scary
Additional Info: Diesel came to the rescue as an unclaimed stray, and because of this rough start in life, he can be a little nervous of new experiences and people.
The staff at Manchester Dogs Home have been working with him to show him that life isn’t so daunting after all, and he will need owners who can continue this patient training.
He cannot live with children under 16, and would need to be rehomed to somewhere with no cats. Experience of huskies would be advantageous.
He is a bouncy boy, with lots of potential, in the right home.

Name: Pudge
Age: Six years old
Sex: Male
Breed: Pug/Jack Russell Cross
Likes: Tasty treats, and chasing after tennis balls
Dislikes: Reactive dogs getting too close and scaring him
Additional Info: Cheeky little Pudge is a bouncy lad looking for his forever home.
He enjoys nothing more than being out and about with people and then snuggling up beside his humans after adventures are done for the day.
Pudge also enjoys running after a tennis ball and having some tasty treats, which he’ll politely wait for.
He can walk with calmer dogs but can be overwhelmed if they get in his face or react at him, and for this reason, will need to be the only dog in the home.
He can be rehomed with children over 14, but will need a home with minimal leaving hours, as he can suffer from anxiety when left for long periods of time.

Name: King
Age: Nine months old
Sex: Male
Breed: Crossbreed
Likes: Patient owners willing to give him a second chance and see his potential
Dislikes: Overstimulation
Additional Info: King is only nine months old, but he already weighs 42kg and he’s still growing, and is certainly going to be a large lad when he’s reached maturity.
Unfortunately he was rehomed before, but was returned to the rescue, so his search for his forever home continues.
He would benefit from puppy training classes, and needs ongoing socialisation from patient owners who can help him realise his true potential, as he has a lot to give, with the right family.

Name: Nacho
Age: Four years old
Sex: Male
Breed: Border Collie Cross
Likes: Playing games of tuggy and tossing his soft toys in the air
Dislikes: Strangers, cyclists and traffic
Additional Info: Cheeky chappie Nacho is looking for a calm and patient home to take him in, and give him time to settle.
Nacho will take quite some time to get to know you and trust you, but once he does, he shows his loving, mischievous side and enjoys sitting beside you for a fuss and some ear scratches and will even put his paws on your shoulders for a big bear hug!
He is still quite overwhelmed by new experiences, including meeting new dogs and walking in high stimulus areas, so he will need a quiet adult-only home where he can find his feet, and improve his confidence.

Name: Vim
Age: Four years old
Sex: Female
Breed: Greyhound
Likes: Being on walks and exploring new places
Dislikes: Cats or other small animals
Additional Info: Vim is a sweet girl, who is ready to take the next step into her new life. She is very shy at first, but when she gets to know her handlers, she is loving and affectionate.
She loves being out and out on walks and exploring new places, but currently needs to be walked on a lead, and is trained to be muzzled, a practice the rescue encourages new owners to continue.
Due to her previous training Vim does have a very high prey drive and can be very strong on the lead and for this reason, she would not be able to live with any cats or small animals.
She would love a secure garden where he can run about and play safely, but then is happy to snuggle up with her humans and take a leisurely afternoon nap.

Name: Storm
Age: Three years old
Sex: Male
Breed: Jack Russell
Likes: Playing with tennis balls, all day if you’ll let him
Dislikes: Being left alone, and bigger, scarier dogs
Additional Info: Storm by name, but not stormy by nature, this cheeky chap is looking for a new home that will make him less worried, and take him for long walks.
He will need someone that is home all of the time initially at least, as he is quite worried about being by himself, so his new adopters will need to build his leaving hours slowly.
He will need to be the only dog in the home, as he has been reactive to dogs at the rescue, particularly larger dogs who tower over him, so for this reason his new adopters will need to be able to walk him in quiet areas where no dogs will run up to him off-lead.
He could be rehomed to a family with children over the age of 16 after a successful meeting.

Name: Panda
Age: Three years old
Sex: Male
Likes: Running and playing
Dislikes: Cats or any other small animals that run quickly
Additional Info: Panda is a happy boy who can’t wait to find his forever home, and his perfect napping partners.
He started life as a racing greyhound but is now ready to find out what the big wide world has in store for him.
He has never lived in a home before, so he would need time to adjust, and a secure garden where he can stretch his legs.
As with other greyhounds he would be happiest with two or three short walks a day so he can use up his energy and then spend time napping.
