Peaky Blinders writer confirms the show will end after season six

As filming commences for the sixth season of Peaky Blinders, the writers have confirmed that this season will be the last.

Series six is set to pick up from season five’s cliffhanger, where Tommy Shelby was left holding a gun to his head as a result of PTSD from World War One but now fans are trying to work out how the season will round off.

But they were also left wondering if there will be a spin off as creator and writer Steven Knight hinted 'the story will continue in another form'.

He said: "Peaky is back and with a bang. “After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher.  We believe this will be the best series of all and are sure that our amazing fans will love it.  While the TV series will be coming to an end, the story will continue in another form.”

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach added: “Along with our wonderful, supportive, partners at BBC and Netflix, we have been working diligently to ensure we can get Peaky safely back into production; the safety of our cast and crew is always our priority. Thank you to all the Peaky fans who have been so unwaveringly supportive and patient. Series six marks the end of an epic story that has entranced audiences since it first started in 2013, but the world of Peaky Blinders will most definitely live on.”

The official Peaky Blinders Instagram account have been sharing some behind the scenes snaps and the production team have ensured that everything in filming is compliant with government guidelines.

Filming for the sixth season had to be scrapped due to the global pandemic but now things are in full swing and actor Cillian Murphy has had his Thomas Shelby hair cut ready for lights, camera, action!

And whilst Peaky Blinders fans were delighted that filming had commenced, they also expressed their sadness that it was the last season.

One said: "THE LAST SEASON???? You can't hit me with such joy then take my legs out from under me!"

While another added: "Reading the final season just low key broke my heard but I can't f*****g wait now."

Another wrote: "Too many bombshells at once. We are not over this yet."

One commented: "I don't know whether to be excited or annoyed that the show is coming to an end... anyhow its been a great ride thus far."
