Peaky Blinders villain Sam Claflin's real life and split from Inbetweeners star wife

Sam Claflin’s life is very different to his Peaky Blinders character - thankfully.

The 35-year-old actor plays mustachioed politician Oswald Mosley, who is the main antagonist in the gripping final series.

When he’s not trying to take on Tommy Shelby’s gang, Sam spends his time in the UK and US and looks far more rugged in real life than the facist MP.

Sam first rose to fame playing Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games franchise and has also had roles in Love Rosie, Me Before You, The Riot Club, and My Cousin Rachel.

Up until 2019, Sam was in a relationship with another acting star, Laura Haddock, who he met during an audition for a movie.

There was an instant spark between the pair when he first met the Inbetweeners movie actress in the audition room in 2011 and realised they had the same agent.

When he got home, Sam woke up his friend at 7am and declared: “I just met the girl I want to marry. I love this girl like, I love her. She's perfect.”

Speaking previously about Laura, Sam said: "I walked into an audition room, I saw her and I knew. I’m not kidding for the life of me. She was reading in for a part and it’s my fourth free call.

"I’ve done previously three auditions with this other girl reading and this girl walked in and I walked out the audition, couldn’t care less if I got the part.

“I called my agent, I said, 'Mate, I am in love'. He’s like, 'How did the audition go, mate?' I was like, 'No, no, you don’t understand. I have just met the woman I want to marry'."

After heading out to a party that night he ended up randomly bumping into Laura at a tube station at 5am.

Sam once described Laura, who also starred in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, as his "female counterpart" and they got married in 2013 after two years together.

Laura gave birth to her and Sam's first child, a son named Pip, in 2015 and their daughter, Margot, in 2018.

Speaking to People after the birth of Pip, Sam said: "Of course it’s hard, [but] it’s all worth it.

"The rewards are just endless. He’s literally the best thing that’s ever happened to me."

Sadly, the couple announced they had split up in 2019 with an emotional joint statement on Instagram.

It read: "Laura and I have decided to legally separate.

“We will move forward with nothing but love, friendship and a deep respect for one another whilst we continue to raise our family together.

"We won't be commenting on this further. Thank you in advance for your support and respecting our privacy at this time. Both of us x"

When discussing his role as the villainous Sir Oswald Mosley in Peaky Blinder last year, Sam suggested the period had been rather painful.

Claflin told the Radio Times: "I enjoy anything that distracts me from my own life at the moment, and gives me an insight into how the other half live."

Last year, Sam was linked to The Saturdays singer Una Healy, who divorced from rugby player Ben Foden in 2018.

The pair were reportedly swapping messages with each other after inking up online and were "hoping to meet for a date" when their busy schedules allowed it.

A source told The Sun on Sunday : "Una and Sam have a lot in common. They've been messaging quite a bit and are hoping to meet up for a date when they can align their schedules."

However, nothing seems to have happened between the pair since the initial rumours swirled.

*Peaky Blinders airs Sundays on BBC One at 9pm
