Stephen Graham’s forthcoming role in Peaky Blinders has been put on hold “indefinitely” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Line of Duty actor was due to join Cillian Murphy and Helen McCrory for the Birmingham period drama’s sixth series, but filming was shutdown due to social distancing rules.
Speaking on the podcast Wood for Wood with Jake Wood and Spencer Oliver, the 46-year-old confirmed he won’t be joining the show anytime soon.
“I was supposed to be starting Peaky Blinders, but that has been put on hold indefinitely,” he told the pair.
“My agent had spent a load of time putting that together.”
Though it was never officially confirmed, there were rumours that actor was going to bring his Boardwalk Empire role as gangster Al Capone over to Peaky Blinders as the character was discussed several times in series five.
Murphy, who plays the leading role of Tommy Shelby on the series, also offered an update on the fate of the sixth season.
“Sending love and fortitude to Peaky fans everywhere,” the 28 Days Later star said during a live chat on Instagram. “We will be back as soon as we can, I promise, causing chaos and knocking heads as usual.”
