Peaky Blinders season 6 release date announced as creator talks 'end of the road'

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has teased when he thinks the show's final season will arrive on television screens.

Speaking during a panel at the BFI London Film Festival on Thursday, Steven said he is hoping for a Spring release, meaning Peaky Blinder fans should get their Tommy Shelby fix between March and May 2022.

Attendees at the festival were told that the last instalment of the much-loved series has now been completely shot, and editing was close to being completed.

Steven also gave further details of the movie version of the show - which he has teased ever since announcing the Cillian Murphy fronted TV series would be coming to an end.

"I am going to write the feature which will be set in and shot in Birmingham," Variety reported that Knight told fans.

"And that will probably be the sort of the end of the road for Peaky Blinders as we know it."

He said that production for the movie is likely to start in around 2023, which means the film could be in cinemas by 2024.

However, he also teased that fans could see the Shelby gang back on the small screen, but in a different format, and with different characters - hinting at a potential spin-off series.

Filming of the sixth season of Peaky Blinders was delayed due to the Covid pandemic, but finally wrapped up in May of this year.

Peaky Blinders season 1 - 5 is available to stream on Netflix now.
