Peaky Blinders fans thrilled as star makes surprise visit to Beamish Museum

Sophie Rundle - famed for her role as Ada Shelby in the hit BBC show Peaky Blinders - took another trip back in time on Tuesday with a visit to Beamish in County Durham.

Sophie, who is used to heading back to the 1920s to play Tommy Shelby's sister on telly, was pictured on the cobbles in front of the Annfield Plain Industrial Co-op at Beamish in the 1900s town area of the famous open-air museum. No stranger to period drama, Sophie has also starred in shows such a Gentleman Jack during a prolific career so far.

In a post on Beamish's own Facebook page, the museum's account wrote: "We were thrilled to welcome Sophie Rundle to the museum today. Sophie played Ada Thorne in the hit BBC drama Peaky Blinders!" Comments from fans paid tribute to a "fantastic actress" and wished her well.

One member of the public said they hoped she had had a "lovely day". Another who had also visited the museum said they "couldn't believe they had missed her".

The actress, who is 34 and has one child with partner Matt Stokoe, was beaming in the picture posted - suggesting she had avoided the thunderstorms which hit the North East later in the afternoon. The museum is currently continuing work on expanding its 1950s town, with plans to recreate Sunderland's Grand Cinema.

But with the newest additions not set to be finished until next year, Sophie will have to make sure to return to the North East to enjoy the ever-changing museum.
