Peaky Blinders director shares first spoilers for series six as Tommy Shelby faces death

Peaky Blinders director Anthony Byrne has shared the first spoilers for series six, with Tommy Shelby facing death in the initial scene.

Season five of the hit show ended with the character, played by Cillian Murphy, holding a gun to his head in a field before the screen cut to black.

Fans have been waiting months to know his fate and now Irish director Anthony Byrne has revealed the new episodes will pick-up straight from this moment, as audiences find out what happened to the gangster.

Lifting the lid on what is to come, the Dubliner said: “Yeah, it picks up directly. So, the very first image you will see will be back in that field… Tommy, with a gun to his head. Then we will move on from there, we resolve that amazing moment… it’s great.”

Meanwhile, while shutting down a fan theory that Oswald, played by Sam Claflin, had sex with Gina Grey in the season five finale, Byrne also teased the introduction of a new female
character. One scene showed Oswald with a blonde woman before he gave his final speech at the British Union of Fascists rally.

But the fact fans couldn’t see her face left some speculating about whether it could have been Gina, potentially setting up another storyline.

Rubbishing the theory, the director told Digital Spy: “I would have shown Anya Taylor-Joy, there would have been a reason. It would have been more shocking to see her and know once and for all.

“I don’t remember her name, she was a really lovely woman who came in and did that scene.

“It definitely wasn’t Anya Taylor-Joy and it certainly wasn’t a stand-in for her character. So yeah, no is the answer.

“There’s a great female character who is new, who is pretty dark. I haven’t seen a character like her in Peaky before.

“I won’t say who she is but she certainly gives Tommy a run for his money.”
