Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis hails 'humble' co-star Cillian Murphy who escapes fame in Ireland

Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis said co-star Cillian Murphy escapes fame by disappearing back to Ireland when filming wraps up.

The Mummy star – who is most famous for her role as Grace Burgess in the global TV hit – said she would love to work with the Cork actor again.

She said she admires the way he manages to disengage from the huge fame that surrounds his role as Tommy Shelby.

Annabelle said: “He’s the most humble guy. He’s got that perfect career where he gets to do what he loves, and he gets to do it with impeccable form.

“And then, he can disappear. He can go off and live his life.

“He’s not bothered, he lives out in Ireland, and he has the perfect balance.”

She added the 44-year-old keeps a very low profile when he’s away from film sets and said: “He’s not on social media, and he doesn’t interact like that.

“So, I think when he goes back into the world, like when he comes into London or New York and there is a frenzy around him, I don’t think it quite marries the headspace that he’s in.

“He kind of does it and then walks away from it. He closes the door. He’s so humble and he is so good.

“He’s a real lesson in class in all areas, whether it’s acting class, the way he lives his life or the way he works.”

She told the Hollywood Reporter she loved acting opposite Cillian as his love interest in the critically-acclaimed series.

Annabelle, 35, added: “Even with Grace in that short span, there was no character fatigue.

“So, them together have become such a force field because of what happened.

“I’ve spoken to Cillian about this, but I think there’s room to collaborate on something else, just because there’s this romantic idea of that and it’s so powerful.Cillian and I are great friends. Me and Cillian, we call Peaky Blinders the gift that keeps on giving.

“I mean, I don’t know if the road is done just yet. We’ll have to wait and see.”

She also told the publication about her latest role as Alice Gustafson, a guilt-ridden Midwestern sheriff who pursues a killer in Robin Pront’s The Silencing.

Annabelle said: “I’m at a place in my life and my career where it’s time to be brave. It is time to push.

“There’s a lot of people who don’t think I can do an American accent.

“And when I spoke to people about the fact I was going to play a sheriff, there was kind of this side look of slight doubt, which also encouraged me further.”

The actress, who starred alongside Tom Cruise in the remake of The Mummy, reveals how she had to convince the Top Gun legend to be allowed to run alongside him on screen.

She revealed: “I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first.

“He said, ‘Nobody runs on-screen [with me]’ and I said, ‘But I’m a
really good runner’.

“So, I would time my treadmill so that he’d walk in and see me run.

“And then he added all these running scenes.

“So, that was it. It was, like, better than an Oscar.

“I was so happy that I got to run on-screen with Tom Cruise.”
