'Peaked at 18' - Chelsea fans will love what happened to Billy Gilmour in training

Chelsea fans may be about to see a bit more of Billy Gilmour with the Blues back in Premier League action next Sunday.

Handed his senior debut by Frank Lampard earlier in the season, the 19-year-old has earned rave reviews after a couple of outstanding performances for the west London club.

The midfielder was widely praised for the role he played in Chelsea's 2-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup at the start of March, with Gilmour then putting in an equally good performance in the 4-0 demolition of Everton.

Lampard has plenty of midfielders to pick from ahead of the Premier League restart and that means he is going to have a tough decision on his hands in terms of whether or not he selects Gilmour at Aston Villa.

Deloitte predicts Premier League clubs will lose £1bn revenue this season

The youngster will be confident of making the squad at the very least going on his past two displays and a lot of Blues fans will be hoping that he gets some minutes at Villa Park.

Key to earning a place in the team against Dean Smith's side will be continuing to impress Lampard and his coaching staff in training and their friendly games before their trip to the Midlands.

Well, Gilmour had a bit of a moment to forget at the club's Cobham training base on Friday.

Warming up alongside the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Olivier Giroud and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the ex-Rangers man had a bit of an accident when trying to go over a small set of hurdles with the team doing some stretches.

The midfielder unfortunately caught his foot on top of the hurdle and came crashing down to the ground right in front of his teammates, who couldn't contain their laughter as he picked himself up off the ground in embarrassment.

Gilmour did later add a short clip to his Twitter account of his mishap, with Chelsea coach Jody Morris also posting a couple of pictures to his Instagram story.

"Peaked at 18. Now can't get over small hurdles. Wee Billy Gilly," wrote the former Blues midfielder.

Chelsea have 11 games left on the agenda before the season is out, although that could potentially increase depending on how they do in the Champions League and FA Cup, and Gilmour will definitely get gametime over the coming weeks.

The highly-rated player has already made quite an impression in his seven appearances for the club so far and there is still so much more to come from him in a Chelsea shirt.
