Peadar Browns pub refuses to remove 'Northern' Irish province flags after complaints to Dublin City Council

A Dublin pub has refused to remove flags of the four Irish provinces which include an Ulster banner from its building after complaints from neighbours to the city council.

Peadar Browns pub on Clanbrassil Street said that it received a phone call from Dublin City Council which claimed it had received complaints from neighbours.

Posting on Facebook, the owner of Peadar Browns said they will not be removing the flags and have called on city councillors to support them.

The post has since seen hundreds of comments and dozens of shares in support of the pub, with many questioning the reasoning behind asking for removal.

They said: "Dublin City Council have rang me this morning and asked me to remove the flags from outside the pub because they were "Northern flags" and after they've received a number of complaints from neighbours about them.

"I will not be removing these flags and I hope Dublin city councillors will back me on this."

Councillor Anthony Flynn questioned what grounds the council had to ask for the removal.

While another person noted that the same Ulster flag can be spotted on a pole on O'Connell Bridge in the city centre.

They said: "Someone may ring Dublin city council and tell them to ask Dublin city council to remove that northern flag they are flying."
