Peacemaker Season 2 sparks a bit more controversy this week, with Fortnite having to take some of the new content from the series out of the game. Epic Games made the decision to disable the “Peaceful Hips” emote in Fortnite after the events of Peacemaker’s episode that was released this week. Fortnite Status told fans they’re investigating the intent behind the emote and it could return. If it doesn’t, the game company is planning on issuing refunds for the “Peaceful Hips” emotes that have already been purchased. Understandably, there are some players that are confused by the popular animation’s removal so swiftly.
On Twitter, Fortnite Status wrote, “We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips Emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry folks.”
The actual emote in question showed off some of the dance moves from Peacemaker’s Season 2 opening theme. (Shout out to Foxy Shazam’s “Oh Lord,” which has been on repeat for a lot of DC fans over the summer.) Peacemaker does some of the choreography which shows off his hands moving up and down before the aforementioned “Peaceful Hips” make their appearance. On the surface, it’s the same kind of eccentric flourish you would expect from director James Gunn. But, could there have been more lurking under the surface?
Explaining Peacemaker’s “Peaceful Hips” Controversy
Earlier in September, DC and Fortnite revealed official images of the new skins to coincide with the new season of the show on HBO Max. There was a special Peacemaker costume skin, Eagly Back Bling, Peacemaker’s Shield as a Pickaxe, and a Clearly Peaceful Wrap for weapons. In addition to those offerings, there’s the “Peace Approved” emote and the “Peaceful Hips” emote that we’ve discussed here.
Take a peek at the dance for yourself right above. The way Peacemaker moves his arm made people open their eyes a little wider after Season 2 Episode 6 this week. The most popular fan theory about Peacemaker’s latest season was confirmed by the show itself and it sent people into an absolute tailspin. There was no question the big reveal at the end of episode 6 was going to ignite all kinds of commentary all over the Internet.
Peacemaker’s emote got pulled because of Earth X’s massive twist

Peacemaker Season 2 has revolved around Chris Smith (John Cena) becoming obsessed with an alternate universe that seems like everything he’s ever wanted. In this alternate universe, Peacemaker’s dad is still alive, his brother never got killed, and his love interest is ready to give him a second shot. Peacemaker is basically Superman in this timeline too, if that wasn’t enough to entice our protagonist. However, Episode 6 ends with the revelation that this is the DCU’s version of Earth X from the comics.
For the uninitiated, Earth X is essentially a world where the Axis forces won an extended version of World War II. Complete with a supremacist version of Superman, this world comes up occasionally in DC Comics canon when the Justice League ends up butting heads with what is essentially a Nazi world. And, the version of Earth X in Peacemaker isn’t very different for the record. And, that’s going to be interesting to see James Gunn and the DCU navigate moving forward.
Our protagonist actually didn’t notice that the world he was living in contained no people of color where he was. After his friends arrived to rescue him, a lot of them caught on pretty quickly. (Earth X’s version of Peacemaker got killed by the mainline Peacemaker earlier in the show.) But, yeah, the beginning of the show could have ended up being a bit of foreshadowing that could be used by bad-faith actors. With the possibility of that happening, Fortnite moved quickly and decisively to shut it down before it spread any further. We’ll keep an eye on this story as it moves forward.
