Taking Covid tests have become a routine part of our lives. With Omicron surging, it's all the more important to take tests and do your part in stopping the spread of the virus.
If you're finding it difficult to find a coronavirus test centre near your home, there’s one clever trick that could make things much easier using Google Maps.
From checking driving times to finding your closest supermarket, Google Maps has several uses that made it a lifesaver in many situations.
Now, it can also help you find your nearest Covid test centre – here’s how.
How to find Covid test centres near you using Google Maps

Google Maps helps you save time and avoid long queues at Covid test centres with a very simple trick.
All you need to do is tap into the app and in the search bar, type in ‘Covid test near me,’ or ‘PCR test near me.’ You will be given several options to choose from.
While you can use this trick via Google Maps on your laptop or PC, it’s easier and makes more sense to use the app via iPhone or Android.
Once you’re on your way, you can also change the map to traffic settings on your phone by pressing the diamond shaped icon which sits over a v-shaped chevron. On laptop or PC, you simply click the terrain tap.
By doing this, you’ll also be able to avoid traffic on your way to the test centre. In any areas with little to no traffic, the roads will glow green. In busier traffic the app will show yellow, while clogs and queues will appear as red and dark brown.
How to book a PCR test

There are a couple of ways to book a PCR test - you can either book for it to be delivered at home or have one done at a test site.
You can choose to order a test to take at home or book an appointment at a test site near you, via the Government website, where you find all the details you need on your nearest testing clinic.
Recently, people who tried to book a slot at a test centre online were told there were “none available". In case of such problems with the online service, people are advised to call 119 to arrange a PCR test, with lines usually open from 7.00am to 11.00pm each day.
Anyone with symptoms is urged to get tested as soon as possible, and order a home kit if you cannot reach or book at a test site.
