PCR test costs from Boots, TUI, Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 and which is the cheapest

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said anyone who enters the UK from abroad must take a PCR test by day two after their arrival.

Travellers must also isolate until the results come back.

To test for travel, you cannot use NHS tests and results of these will not be accepted. You need to order a PCR test from private test provider.

Some destinations will also require you to take a test before you leave the UK.

Anyone who isn't fully vaccinated will also need to take a second PCR test on day eight after arrival.

If you need to get both tests, it is always cheaper to order both together.

The cost of tests can quickly add up, especially if you're travelling as a family.

Here's where you can get the cheapest PCR tests, and how much tests from Boots, TUI, Ryanair, easyJet and Jet2 cost.

Money Saving Expert says home testing kits are generally the cheapest option, though results may take longer as you'll need to post the test kit back.

Randox Health offers these for £48.

You can also save some time on your results by using a Randox drop-box to return your sample. Doing so will mean your results arrive by 11.59pm the next day.

There are three of these drop-boxes in Liverpool city centre, and one at Aintree Racecourse.

The locations and closing times are subject to change, so you should check the website before dropping off a sample.

A list of private providers of PCR coronavirus tests is available on the government's website.

How to book a Boots PCR Covid test

Boots offers both a day-two, and a day-two-and-eight testing service.

These can be ordered online and should arrive at your home within two working days of dispatch.

Completed tests will then need to be returned via post, using a Royal Mail priority postbox.

The day-two tests cost £68, while the double tests for anyone who is not fully vaccinated cost £136.

There is also an in-store Covid PCR testing service available for £79, which offers results within 48 hours - however Boots' website says these are not suitable for those needing a post-travel test.

How to book a TUI PCR Covid test

TUI has teamed up with Randox to offer its cheaper tests, which will include the delivery and return costs of the kits.

These will cost TUI passengers £43 with the holiday provider's discount.

Randox also offers an in-clinic service at Liverpool ONE, for a cost of £55. Results can be expected by 11.59pm the following day.

For travellers who aren't fully vaccinated, TUI offers a discounted double test package from Chronomics.

These cost £99 for passengers who have booked a package holiday with TUI.

How to book a Ryanair PCR Covid test

Ryanair passengers can buy discounted PCR Covid testing kits for their holidays, costing £43.

The budget carrier has teamed up with testing kit brand Randox to save £5 on the testing kits.

Ryanair's website also suggests ordering a test from CityDoc, with these costing £55.

How to book an easyJet PCR Covid test

Like other providers, easyJet has secured a small discount with Randox Health, meaning you can get home testing kits for £43.

Travellers can also get a discounted test from Collinson, costing £55.20 with easyJet's code, instead of the usual price of £69.

You can find out more about the kits on easyjet.com.

How to book a Jet2 PCR Covid test

Jet2 has teamed up with some third party providers to offer discounted tests from £43.
