PC suffers potentially ‘life-changing’ injury after being struck by car

A police constable has been critically injured after he was struck by a car in Hillingdon.

The incident took place at 6pm on Friday, May 21 in Manor Way when the officer, a PC aged in his 30s, was on routine patrol and attempted to stop a silver Vauxhall Corsa.

As the officer moved towards the car to speak to the driver, they accelerated into him before speeding off.

He sustained an injury to his leg and was taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service.

He remains in hospital where he is being treated for his injury which has been described as potentially life-changing, the police said.

Almam James-Downes, 24, was arrested in connection to the incident on May 22.

He will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on May 24 charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.
