PC Andrew Harper’s mother shares details of late-night Downing Street call

The mother of PC Andrew Harper has shared details of a late-night call she received from Downing Street, just one day after No10 said it was “not possible” to stop the early release of her son’s killers.

Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, who were sentenced to 13 years for manslaughter, are set to be freed in January as part of the government’s early release scheme.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast on Tuesday (11 August), Debbie Adlam explained that she received a call from Andy Burnham’s chief of staff who assured her that the prime minister “ has more hope now of finding a resolution to this to try and keep them in prison”.

Ms Adlam said that whilst the conversation instilled some hope in her, she has to manage her expectations to “protect her own feelings”.
