The family of Pc Andrew Harper have vowed to "go forward with Andrew in our hearts" in their first tribute to the officer, a week after he was killed.

Pc Harper was responding to a burglary when he was hit and dragged under a vehicle in Sulhamstead, west Berkshire. He died of multiple injuries.

The newlywed, 28, was about to go on his honeymoon with wife Lissie when the incident took place.

His family released the touching tribute this morning, ahead of a minute's silence by police forces across the country.

At 11am, Thames Valley Police will fall silent to honour the memory of the officer, with forces including Leicestershire and Kent also supporting the move.

In statements released by Thames Valley Police, his mother Debbie said: "We are devastated and bereft but, as Andrew always lived with dignity, honour and calmness, we intend to grieve in this way.

"A big part of me has gone with you. I cannot imagine our lives going forward, but we will do so with Andrew in our hearts."

His father Phil added: "You would always put yourself forward to look after the people around you, and would always see the good in others.

"You always made us laugh, always bringing tears of happiness to our eyes."

Pc Harper's brother Sean said: "We all love you so much, I promise you will never be forgotten, and I promise that I will do my best to try to make you as proud of me as I am of you."

His sister Aimee said: "It takes my breath away every time the realisation sets in that I never get to see you again. But we were so, so lucky to all be together for the wedding, which was perfect. You always brought us together."

The family previously said they were "devastated" over Pc Harper's death, but it is the first time they have made an official tribute to the officer.

In an open letter to her late husband, released last week, Pc Harper's wife said she cannot bring herself to be angry about Pc Harper dying at work because “you loved it and always wanted to keep everyone safe, especially me.”

She wrote: "To my best friend. The kindest, loveliest, most selfless person you will ever meet. You were brave, funny, and always there for anyone who needed it.

"There is not enough paper in the world to even begin to write a tribute for you, but no one deserves it more.

"We had so many plans for the future, you wanted to do it all. My darling boy I do not know how I will be able to survive without you."

Jed Foster, 20, will stand trial for Pc Harper's death in January after he was charged with murder and the theft of a quad bike from a man called Paul Wallis

He is yet to enter pleas to the charges, but his lawyer Rob Jacques said on Tuesday that Foster "denies any involvement in the horrific murder of Pc Harper".

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, which works within Thames Valley's force area, responded that its staff would be "standing in solidarity" after the initial announcement was liked and shared hundreds of times.

A fundraising page set up by the Thames Valley Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file officers, had raised more than £260,000
