Payton Pritchard leaves game vs. 76ers early with apparent knee sprain

Boston Celtics rookie point guard Payton Pritchard left the game in the first half of the Celtics’ 122 – 110 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers Friday night with an apparent knee injury.

The University of Oregon product crumpled to the ground in pain and remained there for some time after teammate Jaylen Brown inadvertently collided with his leg on a play, and immediately had to be helped off the court while unable to put much weight on the limb. While it remains to be seen what additional testing will turn up in the coming days, the injury was initially ruled a knee sprain with Pritchard remaining out for the duration of the game.

After the contest, head coach Brad Stevens shared he had no additional news to share about the injury or what the next steps would be, but said he did not expect the first-year floor general to play in the team’s next few games.
