Payment solution provider launches in Ireland after equity investment funds expansion

A Grimsby payment specialist has made its first international move.

Card Industry Professionals has extended its reach to the Republic of Ireland, five years after launch. It provides card handling facilities for thousands of public-facing SMEs, enabling cashless transactions.

Retailers, hair and beauty salons and the hospitality industry are key markets for the Aylesby-based company. It is taking Worldpay across the Irish Sea as part of a new strategic partnership focusing on the latest payments hardware and software developments, while continuing its work with Elavon, whose merchant services CIP has been providing since it launched back in 2017.

The company now has a network of 150 sales agents working on its behalf, a figure set to expand quickly.

Managing director, Ciaran Savage, said: “Our senior team has 40-plus years’ experience in the payments industry and CIP set up to offer merchants a choice, with the focus firmly on providing a high standard of customer service and an in-depth understanding of the products on offer to merchants to suit their individual business requirements.

“I am delighted that we can now take our services to merchants in the Republic of Ireland thanks to our partnerships with Elavon and Worldpay. We are building on our team of local sales professionals and look forward to having a full complement of staff on the ground to continue our five-star level of customer service, for which we have become known in the UK.”

Mr Savage, last year recognised by Forbes as one of 30 Under 30 across Europe to watch in the finance sector, attributes the company’s success to offering customers more transparent card processing options that don’t attract huge monthly fees or unnecessary transaction charges.

The opportunity for international growth was realised after CIP secured significant backing in April. Grant support was also approved by the Department of International Trade, with the business participating in a trade mission to Dublin.

Non-executive director, Mike Chambers, added “CIP is excited to be extending its reach into the Republic of Ireland, “said Mike Chambers, non-executive director, adding that it comes “at a time when contactless payment volumes in Ireland have risen by 34.7 per cent year on year to three million payments per day”.

Building on the quarter one figures for 2022, he said the value of contactless payments was also up by 40 per cent to more than €49 million [£43 million] per day.”
