Payment provider for Asos and Topshop picks Manchester for second location

Fintech firm Klarna, which provides a ‘buy now, pay later’ service for retailers including Topshop and Asos, has chosen Manchester as the location for its second UK office.

The payment provider, which currently has one office in London’s Oxford Street, will open its new office at Old Granada Studios in Spinningfields in September.

General manager Luke Griffiths said Manchester was the 'clear choice' of location for a second office as it’s home to retail partners including In The Style, JD Sports and Missguided.

He said: “Given the north west is home to some of the most exciting and innovative fashion brands in the country, fantastic talent and on-trend shoppers, we couldn’t find a better second home.”

The new office will provide a base for its employees currently working in the region, and will enable planned hiring in the north west, the firm said.

Mr Griffiths said: “Our expansion to Manchester is a testament to how quickly we are growing in the UK and our strong commitment to the market, our retail partners and customers.

“Twenty-five thousand new customers a week are choosing to pay later with Klarna, as they appreciate the financial flexibility and control it gives.”

The announcement comes as the payment provider, which works with 4,000 retailers in the UK, acquired Close Brothers Retail Finance and has hired 45 new employees over the past 12 months.
