Paxton Lynch leads Seahawks to 22-14 win over Broncos

Paxton Lynch got some revenge against his former team in Week 1 of NFL preseason on Thursday evening.

Lynch scored twice and led the Seahawks to a 22-14 win over the Broncos. The former Denver quarterback is competing with Geno Smith for Seattle’s backup job behind starter Russell Wilson.

Lynch was selected by the Broncos in the first round of the 2016 NFL draft out of Memphis and didn’t work out the way Denver hoped he would. After serving as Trevor Siemian’s backup for the 2016-2017 seasons, Lynch failed to beat out Chad Kelly for the reserve job last summer.

The Broncos then cut Lynch and he did not play during the 2018 season. He signed with the Seahawks earlier this year and made his debut Thursday. Lynch finished the game 11-of-15 for 109 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.

For Denver, starter Joe Flacco led just one drive, one that ended with a successful 25-yard Brandon McManus field goal. Kevin Hogan then got a brief appearance before Drew Lock finished out the game.

Lock had up and down moments. The rookie QB’s highlights included converting a fourth-down situation on a read-option run in the first half and a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter. His lowlights included being sacked in his own end zone for a safety and throwing an interception. Lock finished the contest 17-of-28 for 180 yards with one score.

Up next for the Broncos is a nationally televised “Monday Night Football” showdown with the 49ers on Aug. 19 on ESPN.
