Culture secretary Sajid Javid admitted to a committee of MPs on Tuesday that he used to watch Newsnight regularly, but “not so much anymore”. He told MPs on the culture select committee during a grilling about the future of the BBC “I don’t find it as compelling viewing as I did before”. After a bit of a prod from Labour MP Ben Bradshaw, and ex-culture secretary to boot, it transpires that the “before” Javid enjoyed was the Paxman-era Newsnight. “I don’t know, maybe it is because one of the presenters or something has left,” he added wryly. He cited Doctor Who as the only BBC show he watches regularly. Is it time for Evan Davis to start hosting Newsnight from the Tardis?
