Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie review – the rescue pups unleashed on another romp

The second big-screen animation outing for the inexplicably well funded team of rescue pups and their leader, a human boy named Ryder, sees Paw Patrol’s home town of Adventure City threatened by a crazed scientist (Taraji P Henson), a hailstorm of meteors, and the team’s collective nemesis, Mayor Humdinger (Ron Pardo). Fortunately, exposure to a mysterious asteroid-core energy source has given the dogs superpowers. Most of them anyway: long-haired dachshund Liberty (Marsai Martin) seems to have missed out on a super-skill, unless you count her weapons-grade positivity and organisational aptitude. It’s a chipper, self-consciously adorable romp that will no doubt delight existing fans of the television series. It is, however, laser-targeted at the youngest audience members. Parents should approach with caution, or at the very least, with extremely strong coffee.
