Paulo Sousa responds to surprise link with Arsenal manager's job

Paulo Sousa insists he's focusing on his job at Bordeaux after becoming a surprise candidate for the vacant Arsenal manager's job.

The former Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Leicester City boss hasn't been seen in English football since he was sacked by the Foxes in 2010 after just three months in charge.

He's since rebuilt his career around the world though, with spells at Hungary's Videoton, Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv, Switzerland's FC Basel, Italian outfit Fiorentina and Tianjin Quanjian in China.

He took the Bordeaux job in March this year, and has taken his side to fifth in the Ligue 1 table this season ahead of a home game against Strasbourg on Sunday.

"I'm fine here, focused on everything I can control,” said Sousa when questioned about the Arsenal links at a press conference on Friday, via Goal.com .

“It's me who makes the decision, not my agent. I'm trying to have a great marriage with this club. It's not a question of being impatient.”

Sousa's future at Borrdeaux has been thrown into doubt because of ongoing ownership uncertainty at the club, and the Portuguese has urged the hierarchy to resolve things as soon as possible.

“Each player, each coach, needs to see the situation at the club resolves as soon as possible,” he added.

“I don't know what will happen tomorrow. Tomorrow, the owner could take another decision. It doesn't depend on me. That most important thing for the club is that the situation is resolved as quickly as possible for stability.”

Freddie Ljungberg will be in charge of Arsenal for Sunday's Premier League clash with Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium, with the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Mikel Arteta and Mauricio Pochettino being linked with the job on a permanent basis.
