Paulo Fonseca development as Tottenham 'consider' Newcastle next manager candidate

Newcastle United-linked Paulo Fonseca has emerged as a potential option for Tottenham if Nuno Espirito Santo departs.

That is according to the Daily Mirror, who claim that Nuno’s future in North London is up in the air in the wake of a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday.

The 47-year-old was only appointed at Spurs in the summer and despite winning the division’s manager of the month award in August, has endured a tough time at his new club.

Spurs won all of their opening three matches in the league but have won just twice since, a run which has also included four 3-0 defeats.

And with boos ringing around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium during and after their clash with Man United, it appears owner Daniel Levy could already be set to pull the trigger on the former Wolves boss.

Following the sacking of Steve Bruce earlier this month, though, Newcastle are also on the lookout for a new manager.

Fonseca is one of several names that have been linked with the vacant role at St James’ Park, but now Tottenham could join the mix.

Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Erik ten Hag have also been linked as the new owners look to rebuild the club.

The former Roma boss turned down the advances of Tottenham in the summer with the deal all but seemingly agreed until Fonseca had a change of heart at the 11th hour.

And despite the breakdown in talks, Spurs could be set to go back in for Fonseca should Nuno be relieved of his duties.
