Paulo Dybala update: Tottenham still pushing for £65m transfer ahead of deadline

Tottenham are still working on a sensational deal to sign Juventus’ Paulo Dybala.

Juve are eager to sell Dybala to a Premier League club to raise transfer funds and free space on their wage bill and Spurs are relaxed about settling on a fee in the region of £65m.

The 25-year-old striker is thought to earn close to £300,000-a-week after tax, however, and his exorbitant wage demands, as well as high agent fees and a complicated image rights arrangement, are making the transfer difficult, particularly given the tight timeframe.

Spurs also remain in contact with Real Betis over Giovani Lo Celso, Dybala’s Argentina team-mate, but a move would depend on an 11th-hour compromise from Levy, Betis or both after talks hit stalemate over a fee at the end of last week.

Lo Celso has an £88m release clause and 20 per cent of his fee would be due to his former club Paris St-Germain.

Tottenham’s hunt for a creative playmaker to replace Eriksen has seen them offered the chance to sign Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho on loan.

Bruno Fernandes, of Sporting Lisbon, is the other player Spurs have considered for the position, although talks with the Portuguese club have stalled and are unlikely to resume.

Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon is expected to seal a £25m deadline-day move to Spurs, who have agreed to include Joshua Onomah, the 22-year-old midfielder, in the package.
