Paulo Dybala makes honest Juventus contract admission amid Tottenham transfer links

Paulo Dybala has opened up on his contract negotiation talks at Juventus, amid links of a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Towards the end of 2021, reports suggested that Spurs had reignited their interest in signing Paulo Dybala.

In August 2019, news emerged that Tottenham had reached an agreement with Juventus for the transfer of the Argentina forward, for a fee in the region of €75million (£69million).

However, Spurs eventually pulled out of a deadline day deal at the last minute as a result of Dybala 's image rights issue.

Clubs typically acquire image rights of new signings but, in recent years, players have decided to take the matter into their own hands by selling off their image rights to media companies as a money-making incentive.

Dybala consequently sold his rights to a Malta-based company owned by his former agent, Pierpaolo Triulzi.

Tottenham would like to have used the signing of an international star like Dybala to help sell merchandise and profit from their investment, but they needed to reach a third-party agreement with the media company, who, as per the Express, were demanding £14million.

The Argentinian star now has just six months remaining on his contract at Juventus, meaning he is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs this January.

Nevertheless, he has insisted that a lot has been going on behind the scenes regarding his contract situation in Turin.

"Many things have happened... I prefer not to talk about it," he told DAZN, as cited by Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

“I’ve nothing to prove to anyone [to sign a new deal with Juventus]. The club has decided to talk with me in February or March. I’m here available for the manager.”

It's a transfer link that could resurface in the future - especially now that Antonio Conte is at the helm - but for now, there's nothing concrete to suggest that a move is likely.
