Paulinho inspires Bayer Leverkusen but Rangers' Europa League rivals hit by fresh injury blow

Paulinho grabbed a deadly double as Bayer Leverkusen cruised past Frankfurt in their final Bundesliga game before facing Rangers.

The Brazilian youngster had scored just once this season before today but showed what he can do as he was vital in their 5-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt at the BayArena.

It was the 19-year-old's first ever Bundesliga start since making the move from Vasco da Gama in a €20m deal in 2018.

And he'll be hoping to keep his place in the team to take on Steven Gerrard's side in the Europa League .

It was a day when Leverkusen's young guns starred again with Kai Havertz continuing his fine form with the opening goal of the game.

Havertz's incredible form means he now has four goals and six assists in his last seven games for the German giants.

But they could be without the experienced Sven Bender for Thursday night's trip to Glasgow to take on Rangers .

The centre back took a knock to the knee during the first half and is likely to join his brother Lars - Leverkusen's captain - on the treatment table.

But it was Paulinho who stole the show with his two goals as well as an assist in the 4-0 win.

And he admits he needed to repay the faith shown in him by Peter Bosz as he said: "Today was a really big relief for me.

"I knew if the coach was going to play me that I needed to perform and thankfully I could do that with two goals and an assist. I’m happy that I could help the team."
