Pauline Hanson says she doesn’t believe that 49% of voters support a ban on Muslim immigration to Australia.
“I’ll tell you something, I believe it’s a lot higher than that,” she told Sky News on Thursday.
“Because people would have been in fear to answer the question, the polling, because they don’t know who’s taking the call and they don’t want to be registered of what their views are.”
This week’s Essential Poll found 49% of Australians support the One Nation leader’s call to ban Muslim immigration.
It found 60% of Coalition supporters, 40% of Labor supporters, and 34% of Greens supporters support the policy.
Hanson said she wasn’t shocked that so many Greens voters support her policy.
“[Muslims] have no tolerance for gay people, which is so wrong, and yet I get ridiculed for that but I’m very open-minded, as far as it goes,” she said.
“It’s a clear indication that even the Greens don’t like where they [Muslims] stand with their views towards [homosexuals].”
Hanson also criticised her One Nation colleague Malcolm Roberts for saying well-known media personality Waleed Aly condones terrorism.
“Look I don’t know why Malcolm’s made that comment whatsoever. It’s the first time I’ve actually heard of it that he actually has said that,” she said.
“No look I don’t believe that at all. I think [Aly’s] done very well for himself, you know. And I didn’t even know he was a Muslim. I don’t look at people like that, are you a Muslim or not a Muslim.”
“Everyone has the opportunity in this country to actually, you know, go on for work or you know, have a peaceful life, as long as they don’t bring their radicalisation here and support a religion or an ideology that purely hates our culture, our way of life, and who we are.”
