Paulie Malignaggi offers to take on Jake Paul in first fight against "real boxer"

Paulie Malignaggi has offered to face YouTube star Jake Paul in the boxing ring as he calls for him to face a "real boxer".

The YouTube star fought in crossover bouts against UFC stars beginning the year with a victory over Ben Askren before defeating former champion Tyron Woodley twice.

He has faced several calls to step in the ring with a natural boxer after his scheduled bout with Tommy Fury collapsed in December due to the Briton's withdrawal through injury.

Malignaggi believes he is the ideal candidate to step in the ring with Paul, and believes that Paul would be beaten by Julio Cesar Chavez Jr if the pair meet.

"I wanna see Jake Paul vs a real boxer," Malignaggi told his YouTube channel. "I think it's gonna be an older guy.

"But it can't just be an older guy nobody's ever heard of… A little bit older, a little bit smaller. He's gonna hit him, so maybe not the biggest puncher. Err, Paulie Malignaggi?

"There is a lot of talk including Chavez Jr, but I personally think that he beats Jake Paul. I think Paul was having trouble with Tyron Woodley until he knocked him out. If anything don't think he can take on a boxer in his prime.

"Chavez Jr in his prime wasn't even that good, but I still think he was better than Jake Paul as he did win a world championship legitimately. I think he is too much because he also has the size, he might be big enough to give Jake Paul a lot of problems.

"Paul is the star here, you want to make sure that you groom the star in the right way by putting him in fights where he is at risk but that he can win."

Malignaggi fought 44 times as a professional before retiring in 2017 after stoppage defeat to Sam Eggington.

He previously held world titles in two weight classes including welterweight and he now works as a boxing analyst.

There would be a significant size advantage for Paul who stands at six-feet tall in comparison to Malignaggi who is four inches smaller at five feet eight inches.

He is currently focusing on the promotion of the event between Katie Taylor and his client Amanda Serrano and is yet to pinpoint a boxing return after taking a break from the sport.

He has been called out by the likes of Anderson Silva and Fury who are both making careers in the boxing ring.

However he is targeting a date of August or September to make his comeback while he focuses on other ventures.

"It's hard to say," Paul told the MMA Hour. "There is a lot of other aspects of my life that are really busy. I'm going to these press conferences over the next two weeks to promote Taylor vs Serrano.

'I need to have a discussion with my coaches. So probably like August or September, maybe later."
