Paulie Malignaggi breaks down Amir Khan vs Terence Crawford

Paulie Malignaggi believes Amir Khan is past his best - and will suffer at the hands of Terence Crawford.

Khan challenges Crawford for the American's welterweight world title at Madison Square Garden on April 20.

He goes into the fight as a considerable underdog as he bids to win another world title.

And Malignaggi, who lost to Khan in 2010, believes Khan is now over the hill.

"There was a time in Amir Khan's career when you had to fight him, you couldn't really box him," he told BT Sport.

"You wouldn’t see Amir take beagtings, if he lost he would just get caught and stopped. It was hard to catch him clean and keep up with him in the ring because he was such a dynamic fighter.

Amir Khan explains why Kell Brook fight might never happen

"The way to fight Amir was to make it a rough fight.

"I feel like Amir has started to dip in his career; in his last fight he had trouble against a guy [Samuel Vargas] who wasn’t trying to fight, he was trying to box him.

"He was dropped by a one-two, it wasn’t a mistake that was forced, it just happened.

"Terence Crawford is your typical world class boxer, this particular boxer usually has trouble with Amir.

"But i don’t think it's the time anymore, I think Amir has tipped over and he has trouble even with boxers now.

"It's a pay day, it's what Amir does; at his point in his career he’s looking for the biggest fights. It's an extra feather in his cap if he can win this fight but I think at this stage of his career it's too late."
