A former cop has told how Paula Yates stunned customers in a cafe by drunkenly revealing her
kinky sex life with rocker Michael Hutchence.
Ex-Detective Inspector Mark “Scarface” Smith said she ranted at him in public after Hutchence, 37, was found hanged in a hotel.
“She didn’t want to believe it was suicide,” he said in an Australian True Crime podcast.
Recalling their meeting in Sydney, he said: “It was a nice cafe. Older women and men were eating lunch.
“She wanted to talk to the coroner and say it was a weird sex thing Michael would have been doing.”
He said she then drunkenly revealed their sex fetishes for the cafe to hear.
An inquest ruled Hutchence committed suicide at Sydney’s RitzCarlton in November, 1997.
Paula and her four girls, including year-old Tiger Lily with Hutchence, had been due to fly out from the UK to join him but the older girls’ dad Bob Geldof allegedly blocked the move.
Three years later Tiger Lily found Paula, 41, dead of a heroin overdose.
