Paul Tisdale responds to Lee Bowyer's comments on Erhun Oztumer's future at Bristol Rovers

Paul Tisdale remains calm about Erhun Oztumer's future at Bristol Rovers after comments from Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer.

Bowyer this week revealed the Addicks had received interest from other clubs about signing the playmaker, who is midway through a season-long loan at the Gas.

The Charlton manager hinted the south-east London side were open to recalling Oztumer in January to seal a permanent deal away from the club. However, FIFA rules prevent players from playing for more than two clubs in a single season.

And with Oztumer out of contract at The Valley in the summer, domestic suitors are highly unlikely to materialise with the 29-year-old unable to play for a new club until the end of the current EFL season, when he could be signed as a free agent.

Oztumer has made 10 appearances for the Gas since joining in October after turning out five times for the Addicks earlier this term.

That means he cannot play for another club until next season, save for a few limited exceptions such as a move to the United States due to their football calendar beginning in the spring rather than in August.

"I don’t quite understand the comments," Gas boss Tisdale said at his press conference on New Year's Eve ahead of Saturday's visit of Blackpool.

"He’s played for Charlton and he’s played for us, so he can’t play for a third team. They’re entitled to bring him back if they wish.

"We’re very happy with Erhun. If they want to recall him to play him at Charlton they are more than entitled to because he’s their player.

"In terms of playing elsewhere, I need to have a look at the details of it, but I’m not under the impression he can.

"But when a player is on loan, he’s not really our player and they can recall him if they wish. We’re in their hands and Lee will decide to do what he wants to do.

"It’s worked very well so far and we’ll see what happens."
