Paul Tisdale explains Bristol Rovers' striker transfer stance as deadline day approaches

Paul Tisdale insists Bristol Rovers are working hard to add to his squad before the transfer window closes next week, but he believes it will be "difficult" to get deals done.

Deals have to be completed by 11pm on Monday, and Rovers have been eager to add another centre-forward to their squad after bringing in goalkeeper Joe Day and defender George Williams from Cardiff City and MK Dons respectively.

Injuries have left the Gas short of attacking options at times this season and have targeted the likes of Jayden Stockley, Armand Gnanduillet and Harry Smith in this window, but they have all sealed moves elsewhere.

Tisdale has assured supporters that the club continues to make enquiries with the deadline approaching.

"We’ve been trying to get a particular position into the squad," Tisdale said, alluding to Rovers' efforts to sign a forward.

"We’ve not been able to do it yet. We’ve tried really hard, the board have been incredibly supportive in trying to make it happen.

"The days have gone where you can just flash the cash because we’ve got salary caps and squad numbers. It’s a much more difficult time to get that kind of signing.

"It may happen. It won’t be for the want of trying. I think let’s get to next Monday, and if we haven’t or we have, we can discuss it then, but we’re trying very hard to support and back up what we’ve already got."

Tisdale told Bristol Live the club will not make any signings for the sake of it and any additions must add quality to the squad.

"I don’t think it’s about taking anybody because we need a number, we’ve actually got the numbers," he continued.

"It’s about getting the right type that we need to supplement what we’ve got. It’s as simple as that.

"We are looking very hard and I think we all agree there’s a particular type of player we need that we haven’t got and we’re trying to find him."
