Paul Tisdale confirms first appointment to Bristol Rovers backroom staff

Bristol Rovers have confirmed the appointment of Mel Gwinnett, who has been given responsibility for "football operations".

Gwinnett has worked with manager Paul Tisdale at both Exeter City and MK Dons, and he has been added to the Rovers coaching staff.

He will support Tisdale on the training ground and in the technical area on matchdays, as well as being given decision-making responsibilities and overseeing the more menial tasks to allow the manager to prioritise his efforts in the most important areas amid Rovers' hectic shedule.

Gwinnett was in the dugout for Rovers’ 3-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on December 12, but an announcement of his appointment was delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the squad.

Tisdale, who inherited the coaching staff which worked under Ben Garner, is pleased to have added a familiar face to his off-field team.

"I'm pleased to welcome Mel to Bristol Rovers and I look forward to continuing our close working relationship," Tisdale said.

“Mel is acutely aware of how I function as a manager and will be able to assist me in making sure that we create the perfect working conditions for both the players and the support staff.

"On a personal level, Mel will create processes within the football department that will encourage efficiency and allow me to focus on being the best possible Manager I can be for this football club."

Gwinnett will work alongside assistant manager Jack Mesure, first-team coach Kevin Maher and goalkeeping coach David Coles at the Quarters.
