Paul Sullivan: Baseball's best and worst from an uneventful first half of 2017

Uneventful is the operative word as baseball's first half comes to an end Sunday.

The National League playoffs are almost complete as we enter the All-Star break, and the American League is equally dull.

The Dodgers and Nationals are running away with their divisions in the NL, and the Diamondbacks and the Rockies seem fated as wild cards. The only real race is between the Cubs and the Brewers in the NL Central, and despite the current outlook, most seem to believe the Cubs eventually will prevail.

Meanwhile, the Astros are head and shoulders above the rest of the AL pack, and going into Friday's games, nine AL teams were within five games of .500, which should make for a scintillating wild-card race among teams that have no place being in the playoff hunt.

As baseball takes a four-day break for the Midsummer Classic, here are our best and worst of the first half:
