Paul Smyth murder: Police charge man with offence

Police investigating an alleged murder have charged a man with an offence linked to the death.

In a brief statement issued on Saturday morning, they said that detectives “from the PSNI’s Major Investigation Team, investigating the murder of 50-year-old Paul Smyth in Lisburn in June 2019, have charged a 37-year-old man with encouraging or assisting offences believing one or more will be committed”. 

They added that the suspect is due to appear before Lisburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 28.

The charge, “will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service”.

Last year two men were charged with Mr Smyth’s murder.
