Paul Sinha left livid with himself after making foolish mistake on The Chase

Paul Sinha was left furious with himself during Tuesday night's episode of The Chase after he made a mistake.

Four hopefuls, Callum, Lynn, Charles and Bronagh, went head to head with Paul - aka The Sinnerman - in a bid to win a possible jackpot prize of thousands of pounds

Charles was the last in line to battle it out with Paul, who said he would use the prize money to take his wife on a holiday to New Orleans.

While the contestant's chances were looking good during the cash-builder round as he gained £7,000, quizmaster Paul was determined to beat to him after winning against two other hopefuls.

During the head-to-head round, Charles chances started to look slim as he made a number of mistakes, with Paul on course for victory.

But, to his horror - just when things looked to be going his way - Paul made a mistake when answering one of host Bradley Walsh's questions.

When asked to answer "What does the word 'comital' refer to?" with the options of either A) Earl, B) A prince or C) A king, Bradley shortly after revealed the correct answer of A, 'earl'.

Paul struggled to hide his feelings as straight away he began to wince, promoting Bradley to say: "Ey up, he's not happy."

Even viewers watching from home were in shock with Paul's mistake, with many taking to social media to react.

One viewer said: "I'm surprised Paul got that wrong :-) :-) #thechase"

Another added: "Paul having a mare #thechase"

"I'm going for my usual 18 but win bc Paul is having a mare #TheChase," a third agreed.

A fourth boasted: "Even I knew that #TheChase"

Another viewer even joked when The Sinnerman made yet another mistake on the show: "Sinnerman will BRIE raging he got that cheese question wrong #TheChase"

Charles advanced into the final (The Chase / ITV)

Paul then admitted how he had gotten the answer completely wrong, confessing: "I was looking for a count..."

The error enabled Charles to advance into the final round with fellow contestant Lynn with a respectable £15,000 sitting in the prize pot.

A number of viewers thought the pair had it in the bag, with one admitting: "#TheChase I can see these 2 winning tonight"

A second agreed: "I think the team will win."

But it seems the pair couldn't set a big enough target in the Final Chase as Paul was able to pull it back with 35 seconds to spare.
