Paul Scholes' X-rated tirade at reporters in court as teenage son avoids jail

Manchester United great Paul Scholes launched a foul-mouthed tirade at reporters after his teenage son was spared jail for assault.

Arron Scholes, 19, was sentenced to a twelve month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay costs of £775 having been found guilty of punching former school pal Robert Kemper, 21, at a pub in Oldham last June.

He denied the offence but was found guilty by a jury at Tameside Magistrates' Court and was accompanied by his parents as he arrived at his sentencing at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday afternoon.

According to the Manchester Evening News, former England international Paul Scholes approached the press bench as he walked into the public gallery and said: "What b******s are you going to write today then?"

It is understood Scholes has been unhappy at the level of media attention the case surrounding his son has attracted.

His representative, Andrea Griffiths QC, voiced those concerns in court, as she told district judge Samuel Goozee that her client is an "ordinary, decent, hard-working, studious and intelligent young man."

She continued: "The level of personal abuse that has taken place since the conclusion of this case, the pressure that this 19-year-old is under, the impact on him and his family who are thoroughly decent, the impact will be felt on them long after this court has imposed a sentence.

"As a result of this conviction, the fact he has lost his good character is punishment enough.

"He got good A-Levels, he is a university student, he is trying to make his own way in the world, not in the shadow of anybody else.

"No matter the hours of unpaid work imposed, the impact of this court case will shape the way he lives his life.

"The sentence has already begun."

Neither Arron Scholes nor father Paul made any further comment as they left court.
