Paul Scholes watches Manchester United vs Crystal Palace from Stretford End

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes watched his former side's defeat to Crystal Palace yesterday alongside supporters in the Stretford End.

The former midfield star was spotted by several fans singing along with home chants, as United were beaten 2-1 by Palace at Old Trafford.

Scholes has regularly been seen at the stadium in recent months and years — though usually while working as a pundit.

He has been been splitting his time in recent weeks between punditry and his co-ownership of Salford City, following an unsuccessful stint in management with his hometown club Oldham Athletic.

Scholes, 44, won 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, two League Cups and two Champions League titles in an incredible career at United.

He has been an outspoken critic of the club since his retirement in 2013, but still clearly retains an affection for the club, who are managed by his former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian reacted to the Palace defeat by refuting suggestions that he was concerned about Jesse Lingard's form. The England international played in the No.10 role so often occupied by Scholes during his time at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer said: "We stick together and Jesse's not scored any goals in the last three games, no, but he's been a big part of our team and will continue being an important part.

"The energy he gives us is lively, but we felt Mason (Greenwood) had to come on and create something and we'll see more of Mason."
