Paul Scholes warns Jadon Sancho's Man Utd arrival could backfire on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Paul Scholes has warned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that the signing of Jadon Sancho could backfire at Manchester United.

The Borussia Dortmund star has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils tried to sign the England international last year only to be rebutted by the Bundesliga club after failing to agree to their £108m price-tag.

But a move could be revitalised going into the summer with Dortmund set to miss out on Champions League football.

It means that their asking price will have to come down, while several other clubs become interested including Liverpool and Real Madrid.

However, United remain the frontrunners over a transfer after laying down the groundwork for over a year now.

But club legend Scholes has warned Solskjaer that he risks blocking Mason Greenwood's pathway, who is still developing.

After United’s win over Granada on Thursday night, Owen Hargreaves insisted the signing of Sancho “would be amazing”

But Scholes replied: “I think that could stop the likes of Mason Greenwood by signing a Sancho.

"I know what you're saying about Sancho but Mason Greenwood has been the best player on that right hand side.

"Marcus doesn't like playing there, Martial doesn't like playing there. They both like coming in from the other side, cutting inside on their right foot.

"Mason has been the best player out there. I get what you're saying about Sancho.

"What I see in Sancho is that he would be more creative and have a better link with a centre-forward.

"A centre-forward would like to play with him a bit more than a Mason Greenwood or a Marcus Rashford.

"They're more head down, dribblers, want to score goals. Whereas this lad can do both, he's a sensational player.

"I just wonder if he's still a little bit similar to what United already have in those kind of areas."
