Paul Scholes transfer advice falls on deaf ears with Man Utd's latest move

Paul Scholes had a clear message for the Manchester United board after their Europa League exit - spend big to win big.

The former midfielder suggested that Ed Woodward needs to splash the cash on proven world class performers such as Jadon Sancho rather than trying to do things on the cheap.

But it seems that the Red Devils are still looking for value and ignoring Scholes’ advice.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are considering a move for Bournemouth star David Brooks.

The talented Welshman has shown his technical ability and could well make the step up to succeed at Old Trafford.

Yet he is untested at the highest level and is reportedly being viewed as a cheaper alternative to Jack Grealish after Aston Villa slapped a big £80million price tag on his head.

In the eyes of Scholes, winning top level trophies and getting back to former glories means United must be willing to spend big on top talent.

Instead, owner Joel Glazer is reportedly reluctant to meet Borussia Dortmund’s valuation of over £100million for Jadon Sancho whilst the club are looking at cheaper options than long-term target Grealish.

"You talk about quality, talk about spending money on centre forwards and wide players,” Scholes said on BT Sport after their defeat to Sevilla in the Europa League semi-finals.

"You talk about hundreds of millions for those players, but those are the players that win you trophies, the ones that win you medals.

"We know all this Sancho thing is going on, but they need to start spending the money. If they want to win trophies, they've got to start spending the money.”

Whilst they are certainly on course to spend, whether they will pay the premium Scholes warned they need to remains to be seen and their latest target shows there are some doubts.
