Paul Scholes tells Dean Henderson how to block David de Gea out of Manchester United team

Paul Scholes says Dean Henderson can secure his spot as Manchester United and England No.1 over the next few weeks.

Usual first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea is currently in Spain after the birth of his daughter, which has granted Henderson a run in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first-team.

Ahead of facing AC Milan on Thursday evening, Henderson had not conceded a goal in the two games since he had been recalled in De Gea's place, including keeping a clean sheet in Sunday's impressive win over Man City.

After De Gea's shaky performance against Everton in February's 3-3 draw, Scholes felt it was the perfect chance to give Henderson a run in the first team and is pleased that the 23-year-old has now been handed that opportunity.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer breaks silence on comments made by Edinson Cavani's father

Speaking on BT Sport, the United legend said Henderson can become first-choice for club and country should he produce a run of good games.

He said: "It depends on what Dean Henderson does now. This is his big opportunity now to cement his place in the team.

"I love David, I think he’s been a sensational goalkeeper for this club for many years, but I think that Everton game, he conceded a couple of goals; I thought it was time for Henderson to come in. Ole obviously disagreed and he kept faith with David. Again, I still thought in those games, he looked a little bit suspect.

"Watching that game on Sunday, I know City didn’t create a lot - which is a great credit to the defence - but I felt safe with Henderson. I just looked and thought: 'If they get a chance, I think he’ll save it'. He just felt comfortable, nice and relaxed, nice and composed, didn’t want to get involved when he didn’t have to.

"This is a huge chance for him - not just for United - but if he does well in the next few games, he’s No. 1 for United and he’s No. 1 for England as well, for me."
