'I won't say it' - Paul Scholes sure about Liverpool and Premier League title after Wolves

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has admitted that Liverpool thoroughly deserved to win the Premier League title last season and has backed them to scoop the trophy again this time around after sweeping aside Wolves at Anfield.

The Reds have made a largely promising start to their title defence with just one defeat, the 7-2 thrashing at Aston Villa in October, from their opening eleven matches.

Jurgen Klopp's side went level on points with Premier League leaders Tottenham after the impressive 4-0 victory on Sunday evening.

Speaking to Amazon Prime ahead of kick-off, Scholes began by acknowledging the return of supporters to Anfield, with 2,000 fans allowed to attend after the city was placed under Tier 2 coronavirus restrictions.

"Whether it’s under the lights or not, it’s a very difficult place to come," he said.

"With a full house, it’s a very intimidating place to come. They’re loud, they’ve got 2,000 here and they will give it a right go."

Scholes, who made over 700 appearances for United during his career, then turned his attention to Liverpool's Premier League title win by praising the Reds and suggesting that the moment would have been significantly improved if fans were allowed to attend matches at the time.

The former England midfielder also revealed that he is backing Klopp's men to retain the trophy this season.

"It took a long time for Liverpool to achieve what they did last year," he continued. "Great credit to them, they were fantastic, they deserved it.

"It was a shame for them that the fans weren’t involved. I’m sure there would have been week-long celebrations, parades, there would have been all sorts. It’s a shame, but the fans are coming back now.

"I won’t say I hope they win it again for their fans, but I think they’re well on their way to doing that anyway."

He then doubled down on his predictions after seeing Liverpool put four past a tough Wolves side with goals from Mo Salah, Gini Wijnaldum and Joel Matip.

Scholes was impressed by the display, in particular the Dutch midfielder as he questioned why he would want to leave amid speculation surrounding Winaldum.

The former Reds Devil man said: "I think they'll win the title again, I really do."
