Paul Scholes sends Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Manchester United squad message after Wolves win

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has insisted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a "quality" squad - although it is lacking in numbers.

United made just three changes from the side that beat Norwich City 4-0 on Saturday ahead of their FA Cup third-round replay with Wolves on Wednesday.

Juan Mata's goal proved decisive to see them through to the fourth round of the cup competition, although Marcus Rashford was forced off with injury.

Should Rashford miss Sunday's clash with Liverpool, or any of United's following fixtures, it would leave them light in attacking areas.

United had been tipped to bolster their forward line in the January transfer window but after missing out on Erling Haaland that now looks unlikely.

However, Scholes believes that Solskjaer has a quality squad at his disposal, even if they are light on numbers.

"I don't think it's a massive squad but the squad he has is quality," Scholes told BT Sport after United's 1-0 over Wolves.

"There might only be 16, 17 players he has but it's a very good squad. It's a good team, a really good team. They played well at times tonight.

"They got in some good position without having that final bit of quality. Wolves didn't throw enough people forward, it's a cup tie, with 15 minutes to go, throwing in crosses and Neves, Moutinho are still sat outside the box. They needed to get people forward to get a goal."
