Paul Scholes sends Mesut Ozil transfer message to Man United after Arsenal squad snub

Mesut Ozil might not be wanted by Arsenal boss Unai Emery but Manchester United should be asking about his availability during the January transfer window.

That is the verdict of United legend Paul Scholes, who was on hand for punditry duties for the club's 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League this evening.

United edged past the Serbian side thanks to a penalty goal from Anthony Martial as young gun Brandon Williams did well to win the spot-kick, but the talk post-match surrounded the lack of creativity from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.

The Red Devils sit 14th in the Premier League after nine games and have only scored ten goals, while Arsenal have one of the best playmakers of the last decade out of favour.

Ozil is a rare breed and doesn't fit into every system but Scholes, an outstanding midfielder during his career, was eager to bring up the 31-year-old's name following the contest.

Scholes had clearly been talking about Ozil, who has struggled for game-time at Arsenal, off air on BT Sport when presenter Jake Humphrey said: "We think you might have got the answer, though, Mesut Ozil. We were watching the game and you said someone like Mesut Ozil would make a real difference in this team."

Scholes responded: "I think he's a player who can link a team together and he has got great quality. He could be an answer in the short term, I don't know. That would be up to him. I probably can't (see it happening) but short term, I think he's a player United could probably do with."
