Paul Scholes sends Manchester United transfer message over Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Manchester United great Paul Scholes has issued a Mesut Ozil transfer message following the club's 1-0 win over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.

The Red Devils got back to winning ways thanks to Anthony Martial's penalty goal, something which came about after a fine run from 19-year-old defender Brandon Williams who did well to win the penalty.

But that was about it for United in terms of excitement on the night as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 's men had to hold firm during the latter stages of the contest as the hosts gained confidence.

It's an important three points for the Red Devils when it comes to their hopes of progression through to the knockout stages of the Europa League, but there was plenty to be frustrated about.

Most namely, United looked poor in attack and failed to register a shot on target from normal play, something which Scholes was more than eager to talk about post-match.

He has already suggested that United need attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window, but he went one step further before the coverage of the Europa League clash on BT Sport had finished.

Scholes had clearly been talking about Ozil, who has struggled for game-time at Arsenal, off air when presenter Jake Humphrey said: "We think you might have got the answer, though, Mesut Ozil. We were watching the game and you said someone like Mesut Ozil would make a real difference in this team."

Scholes responded: "I think he's a player who can link a team together and he has got great quality. He could be an answer in the short term, I don't know. That would be up to him. I probably can't (see it happening) but short term, I think he's a player United could probably do with."
